Hog Roast 2006

1st July turned out to be a scorcher and set the scene for a very successful Hog Roast and fun day. Glorious weather, good food and cold beer made it go without a hitch. A BIG thank you to all concerned for all the hard work and effort that went into making Saturday the great success that it was!

We had a bouncy castle, welly throwing (with some very impressive throws, particularly the winner of the under 11’s Sam Franklin), Army cadets attended with a splendid display and face painting, temporary tattoos and lazer quest packs for the children to play with. Eleanor Flannery organised a ping pong balls and jars game James Alexander slaved over the hog from 6.30am to provide a well cooked “beast”

The afternoon saw two intense games of tag rugby Mums v Sons which was very entertaining followed by the Coaches v Parents which seemed to consist of one parent and several U16 players. An end to end game (mostly at the coaches end) resulted in a marginal defeat for the coaches primarily as a result of the heat. For those with a strong constitution the England v Portugal quarterfinal was screened on the big screen TV all the way through to its nerve racking conclusion!

Following the football and after rapid consumption of the hog, several more drinks and a world cup themed treasure hunt. We began the tug of war. This proved to be one of the funniest events of the day as the kids beat firstly the men and then the women (despite some dubious cross dresser who will remain nameless, but you know who you are!). Lastly the day finished with a raffle of 2 size 4 balls, donated by Eden Park, signed by world cup winner Steve Thompson.

A fantastic day and we will make next year bigger and better!!
